2Putin Wanted a Showcase. He Got a Circus.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum opened with Russia trying to project strength, but the transcript follows how that image kept collapsing in real time. Ukrainian drones struck near St. Petersburg, satellite imagery showed the aftermath at the port, Taliban representatives appeared at the forum, Russian officials presented fantasy scenarios about controlling Ukrainian cities and collapsing the European Union, and the forum's menu and new Volga reveal showed how much of Russia's economic theater depends on propaganda and Chinese substitution.
